My Super Proposal

December 1st, 2006 by Nate

OK, some of you will remember a post I wrote a while ago entitled “Engagements,” wherein I talked about the need to go big or go home. Well, I came across a guy who is the very embodiment of the idea. How, you ask?

This guy is raising money to propose to his girlfriend - with a Super Bowl ad.

The sheer audacity of the plan is more than enough to win my respect. I mean, who does that?

So here’s my contribution: will you?

Let’s hope his girlfriend likes sports. I honestly think I’d be a little upset that he wasted money on that….but I never was big into sports. Power to him. That takes dedication.

Dude, Nikki… if “Smooth Hands” spent a million dollers to ask you out, you would not be mad. You would totally be the happiest girl in the world, so don’t feed me this ‘wasted money’ crap. We all know girls want to be treated special, and a TV proposal is special whether it’s on a football game or Dancing with the Stars.

props for creativity! what’s not to like about a man who is clever? :)

If he had a million dollars, then no, I guess you’re right, I wouldn’t mind. But he doesn’t and neither do i. I’d rather not start a marriage in debt. I’m all about saving money.

That’s the beauty of what this guy is doing. He doesn’t have a million dollars, but if he pulls this off, he won’t have to. I mean, people are DONATING for this. How awesome is that? If you read his blog, he’s getting all kinds of hooked up. Basically, this is a cool deal because he’s not doing anything that’s putting a major financial strain on him. It’ll all be paid for by other people. What’s not to like about that?

Way to take the american dream and the principles of the american welfare system to a whole new level. I say, if you can pull it off, why the heck not? I mean, it’s the next best thing to Oprah’s paying for it. I can’t hlep but wonder who it is that’s contributing, though. All I can picture is (and those of my same sex please forgive me for saying this) really desperate, middle aged women who are wishing it was them and living vicariously through romance novels and the learning chanel’s wedding story. I kinda feel sorry for them for having nothing else to spend money on, but am just shallow enough to accept the money if they wanted to spend it on me and my wedding! :) I know, I’m probably going to hell….

Nice one. I’d be willing to donate just because it’d be such a totally awesome thing to have happen. I think it’s the sheer audacity of the dream. Sometimes you just want to see somebody do something incredible, and it’s even better if you can be a part of it. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to help somebody reach their dreams, especially if it only costs you a couple of bucks.
